In the context of the Finnish environment, one deeply connected to water and light, this project aims to use architecture as a medium of engaging with these elements to celebrate the country's landscape and culture. Starting with imagery from the Finnish surroundings, the process evolved through paper models and collages exploring the interplay of light, drawing inspiration from split wood, and paying homage to the Finnish sauna tradition.
The final design, situated on the coast of Suomenlinna island, embodies the Finnish sauna experience with a structure that creates contrasting moments, forming a subtle progression of saunas and pools. Despite the challenging coastal conditions, the overlapping roof structures integrate with the environment, capturing moments of awareness amid the rough wind and water.
